The Bristol Mud Dock Rock!

The Mud Dock Rock This weeks ride left from Priory School at 9 am as usual and saw a record turnout with 18 riders!  The challenge was to make it to the Mud Dock Cafe in Bristol for a cup of tea and a slice of cake and back in time for sunday roast. The route was designed by Paul Stone so was a master stroke as usual taking us out through Wick St Lawrence on to the A370. Turning off at Congresbury and riding on to Clevedon our first notable climb was Tickenham Hill a Cat 4 grinder up on to Failand. Next we flew cross the Clifton suspension bridge and quickly descended into Bristol and a welcome cake stop. Once refreshed we headed back out to Nailsea along the back lanes using the cycle route 33. We kept a steady pace and good group formation for the last few miles back along the A370 turning off at Wick St Lawrence back in to Weston. The ride totaled 62 miles and averaged 15.7 mph climbing 1700 ft. A big thanks to Paul, Paul,  Andrew, Andy, Ben N,  Joe, Ben,  Aron, Darren, Jonathon, Meirion, Greg, Chris, Duncan, Dave H, Dave T, Mark and Pete.
Hope to see you all next week

Winter Quicky Completed

Weston Wheelers club Sunday ride started, as usual, from Priory school, in far from promising weather conditions. Happily, the frost had held off, only to be substituted, unfortunately, by somewhat damp and dismal weather. Even the misty rain was unable to dampen the enjoyment of the ride, as eight intrepid riders headed out just after 9am. First heading toward Banwell, onto Churchill and up the obligatory climb through Shipham. A rapid descent towards Wedmore and onto Highbridge and Burnham on Sea. The homeward leg through Berrow and Brean was taken at a brisk pace. Although a short rest was taken while the two Pauls demonstrated the art of puncture repair.
Some shiny new toys made their first appearance of the year and the group enjoyed the novelty of rapid tyre inflation by CO2 cannister.
No further mishaps were experienced and the group's arrival at Uphill was greeted by a momentary appearance of the winter sun.  The route totaled 40 miles with 1300 ft of climbing at an average speed of 15.7 mph. Thanks to regulars, Andy, Pete, Paul G, Paul S, Duncan, Ben and first timers Joe and Dave.
