Saturday club ride : 10th September 2022

With a predicted hole in wet weather, here is the provisional route for this Saturday morning club ride.

Our usual route south is hampered by a closure of the railway bridge at the end of Accommodation Rd. There is a traffic alternative published by North Somerset Council that I'm a bit dubious of. I will try to check out the section from Uphill to the other side of the railway bridge - that does look like a bridle path. If it's not suitable, i.e. a mud bath, I will amend the route. This will probably be via Uphill Marina along the 'new' cycle path or direct via the A370, which I'm hoping wouldn't be too busy first thing on a Saturday morning.

There is an opportunity for a cafe stop at the end of the ride, although if anyone doesn't fancy it, bailing out at the Ebdon Rd roundabout is an option (you will miss cake though - just saying).

Meet up at 8:30am, outside Priory School

Update. Having had a look at the councils alternative route, I can report it's rubbish.

I'm going to suggest going down the A370 as far as the Lympsham turn and carrying on with the route from there.

Sunday Club Ride : 4th September 2022

I did promise to post a route for this Sunday even if it's a self-navigating ride this week. It is quite late in the day but I really have agonised as to a suitable course.

With the weather forecast unable to make up its' mind - as far as the Met Office is concerned - it could well be a damp and windy affair.

But for those who really want to get out and blow away the cobwebs, here's a suggestion of a route.

The wind is forecast to be from the South or South-South East, so the route avoids too much wind in your face and may get some shelter from the Mendips from the worst of the wind. It's also a shorter than usual route, but if you were keen you could probably find a loop to add on to the end.

There are two potential café stops around Chew Lake, the 'Salt and Malt' at the North West end and the New Manor Farm to the South East. Last time I was at the 'Salt and Malt' they weren't keen on damp cyclists being inside, but you may be lucky. The New Manor usually has inside space and is sheltered in the courtyard.

Sunday Club Ride – leader wanted

Hopefully the last of the usual navigators absences, but this Sunday we are in need of a willing volunteer to act as ride leader.

Not an onerous task, but if you can turn up with the route and keep a check on participants, please contact the club Secretary.

You get to choose route and cafe stop..........

Saturday ride suggestion

If your looking for an idea of where to ride on Saturday morning and feel like navigating yourself around a course, here's a suggestion of a route.

The route is intended to take advantage of any tailwind to be had.

If you fancy doing it at 8:30 on Saturday morning and happen to find yourself at Priory School, you never know, you might get company, although there's no guarantee...
