Sunday Club Ride : 25th April 2021

Here is the proposed route for this Sunday's club group ride.

There is a bit of a breeze forecast, so I've tried to minimise potential headwinds - let's see how that goes!

Meet up outside Priory School main gates at 9am.

Café stop near Mark.

Please bring the route if you have the technology, or a good memory.

Here is the proposed route for this week's Sunday club ride.

Café stop at Ashton Court - I've checked and they are doing a 'take away' service. There's usually plenty of seating out of the wind in normal times - not that these are normal times yet!

Meet up outside Priory School at 9am.

Please bring the route if you have the technology, in case we need to split the group.

Note; this is an amended route, trying to avoid potentially busier roads.

Sunday Club Ride : 4th April 2021

Remember the good old days, when we went out on a Sunday for a group ride with a café stop in the middle?

Well, the good old days are back again!

Below is the proposed route for this weeks' Sunday club ride.

To be frank, I'm not sure how many people will turn up, but I will be, unless my leg falls off. I anticipate that there are some that may be a little nervous. If it helps, I've had my first vaccination, and so has just about everyone in my family circle.

I have created a fairly easy ride, with a coffee stop just after half way.

There is one 'feature climb' on the ride, a steady slope to negotiate at Woolavington but at 4% average it shouldn't present too much of a trial for even the least recently active amongst us.

There is a stretch of National Cycle way 33 between Cote and Burtle that I haven't used for a while. But it's a cycle route, what could possibly go wrong.

Meet up as usual at 9am, outside Priory School. We are limited to groups of 15 if necessary. Social distancing is still in force.

Please bring the route with you, if you have the technology.

Note. As we started last year, if there is enough interest, we could consider splitting the ride and letting people wanting to race back, do their thing. With the main group picking up stragglers on their way.

Saturday Club Ride : 3rd April 2021

It's been a while, but we're now able to resume club group rides with up to 15 participants.

So, here's a familiar route to get us back into the swing of things.

Meet up, as usual, outside Priory School, at 8:30am.

Social distancing still applies.

N.B. I may as well apologise now for potentially not remembering people's names. Please don't take it personally, I'm capable of forgetting anyone's name.

Club rides……..

Club Rides?

Club Rides!

Club Rides.....

From tomorrow, we are now allowed to exercise in groups of six.

So, I think we can now consider the resumption of club group rides from this week.

I will post a Saturday ride in the next day or so.

Rides for Wednesday and Sunday are under consideration, but we are happy to receive ideas.

Club Rides Suspended – 5th January 2021

Due to the latest lockdown, cycling group rides are now suspended nationally.

The club has received an email from British Cycling with the current advice.

Link to full BC FAQ's here; https://updates-britishcycling.org.uk/480K-ZJ26-URMIV-TDZ2D-1/c.aspx

Below is an extract from British Cycling's email;

How can I continue to ride?

Under the new restrictions you are permitted to cycle, and we would encourage you to do so, while following these rules:

  • You should only ride alone, with your household/support bubble or one other person.
  • Stay local, ride within your limits and ensure you are self-sufficient.
  • Leave the house to exercise only once each day.
  • Keep a safe distance from others and practice good respiratory hygiene (ie. no spitting, use a tissue).
  • You can only leave your home to exercise, and not for the purpose of leisure (such as a picnic or a coffee break).
  • You can travel a short distance within your area to exercise if necessary (ie. to access an open space).

Under the new restrictions, elite sport and organised outdoor sport for disabled people are both exempt. However, due to restrictions on facility access organised activity for disabled riders will be limited by the availability of a suitable location for it to take place.

What do you mean by local?

We know many of you will want to know what is meant by 'staying local'. The Government’s definition of this is stated as ‘your village, town or the part of a city where you live’.

We understand that this definition is particularly restrictive for cycling, and we are working to seek further clarification on this. We will provide a further update as soon as we are able.

In the meantime, we recommend that you follow the advice to stay local, ride well within your ability and ensure that you are self-sufficient.
