Sunday club ride and the Somerset 100
This week’s ride saw four members do the fantastic Sunday Club Ride and fourteen Riders do the epic Somerset 100 Charity Ride. The weather was perfect for an action packed day of cycling.
This week’s club ride was organised by Ben and took the riders out of Weston through Puxton to Sandford. The first climb was up Shipham Lane over Cuck Hill, then a short but steep climb up Long Bottom. Next it was over the Mendips where the wild orchids are growing, down through Chew Magna heading back to Weston through Brockley Combe, Yatton and finally along the A370 back home to Weston. The ride totalled 46 miles climbing 1800 ft at an average speed of 15.7 mph
Big Thanks go to Ben, Steve, Greg and Neil.
Meanwhile fourteen Wheelers were heading out from Wedmore across the Somerset levels. They were greeted with spectacular Somerset countryside as they rode towards Langford through Martock and then North to Somerton. The last 60 miles proved to be the hilliest as we past Bruton towards Frome and then west to Wells. The last 10 miles were thankfully back cross the Somerset levels to the finish at Wedmore. The ride totalled 100 miles climbing 3800 ft at an average speed of 16.6 mph.
This weekend proved to be the busiest yet for the Wheelers with another four members completing the Taunton flyer on Saturday. Well done guys!
A big thanks to all the guys and congratulations to Andrew,Pete G and Phil for completing their first century rides.
